C. Insulation System
We chose to use multiple types of insulation products on this project. Together these products form a cohesive system that offers benefits such as improved building envelope seal, higher R-Values, very stout water penetration prevention, improved air quality, and thermal breaks to name a few. Included in this system are Owens Corning (OC) Pro-Pink Rigid Foam Insulation Board, OC PINKWRAP and BILD-R-Tape, and NCFI InsulStar Closed Cell Blown-in Insulation.
Rigid Foam Insulation Board
Owens Corning Pro-Pink Rigid Foam Insulation board was used to wrap the outside sheathing of the home. By installing Owens Corning Pink products, we created a thermal break between the inside and the outside of the home which prevents heat and cold conductivity in either direction. This process only further serves to improve the overall effectiveness of the insulation system. Their products also offer the benefits of added strength and flexibility to the structure of the home, and are mold and mildew resistant. Owens Corning Pink foam based products are made with up to 15% recycled content.
House Wrap
Owens Corning PINKWRAP was used to wrap the outside of the Pro-Pink rigid foam insulation board. Building wraps help improve air leakage thusly lowering energy consumption, and provide additional moisture control. Owens Corning PINKWRAP was chosen because when compared to other similar products on a broad spectrum of categories, it has better overall performance in areas such as air leakage and porosity, water vapor transmission, water resistance tensile strength, and ease of installation.
NCFI INSULSTAR Insulation
NCFI provided an indispensible part of a strategy to create the most energy efficient building envelope possible. NCFI Insulstar Insulation is an environmentally friendly, closed cell, spray-in-place insulation product. It is formulated of polyurethane and renewable, sucrose based agricultural resources. Insulstar helps to create a very tight envelope and provides up to 60% savings on energy costs when compared with traditional insulation products. Additionally it acts as a vapor barrier, reduces noise, blocks dust, pollen and other airborne pollutants, helping to create a more comfortable and clean environment. We highly recommend this product. By spraying the walls and interior roof deck, the entire home becomes a conditioned space, mitigating energy loss that may occur in HVAC duct work. The R-Value for the roof deck of over 62, created by a thicker than standard layer, essentially pushed the dew point outside of the house, eliminating the need for a ventilated attic space.
