E. Renewable Energy
Solar PV
We have chosen to install a 3.15kW Solar Photo Voltaic system, consisting of Sun Power products. Sun Power panels hold the world record in solar efficiency, which means these products are up to 50% more efficient than the competition and generate about two times the power with the same roof space. Their smooth and dark look with no gridlines, offer a more attractive aesthetic, which adds value to the home. This system is estimated to produce about $400 a year in electricity, based on current electricity costs, and will be monitored so you know the exact benefits you are achieving with the system. If /when the home’s demand drops below the level the system is producing, such as in unoccupied summer months, the system has the ability to introduce electricity back into the power grid. Considering the size of the home, this system’s ability to offset energy demand and potentially sell energy back to the power company, helps to improve the overall green properties of the home.
GeoExchange – Ground Source Heat Pumps
GeoExchange systems are the most energy- efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective space conditioning systems available, according to an EPA study. They offer reliable, durable, quiet, year round comfort. Our system uses three 60,000 btu Water Furnace Ground Source Heat Pumps and consists of 10 vertical holes, just over 400 feet deep . Since these ground loops can consistently offer a steady temperature near 50 degrees, that baseline temperature can be used to cool the home, or assist in heating water, air or radiant floor systems. This allows the ability to take advantage of the harnessing of the constant temperature of the earth to provide space conditioning as well as augmenting the energy needed to provide hot water. While the initial price tag was high, mainly due to drilling costs, the system will eventually pay for itself and will continually offer efficient, clean, heating & cooling energy. This product creates a very strong environmental impact by reducing the use of other products that are not renewable.
Solar Thermal Hot Water
The solar thermal system for this home serves as the primary source of domestic hot water. Any excess thermal energy is directed to the radiant floor heating system. Stiebel Eltron products were used to create the 125 gallon system with 3 storage tanks, and were chosen for their long standing reputation for quality and safety.
