D. Windows and Glass Wall Systems
Windows
Our design team was determined to use the highest quality windows available, which is why Kolbe and Kolbe and NanaWall were selected. Kolbe and Kolbe are industry leaders in quality, and performance. They focus on environmentally responsible manufacturing from recycling scrap and forest management to atmospheric sensitivity. The windows installed reflect un-wanted heat in the summer and retain heat during cooler months, both of which assist in lowering energy consumption. Kolbe and Kolbe provide not just superior quality on energy performance, but also wood species options, and esthetic profile. For these many benefits, we selected Kolbe and Kolbe to Collaborate with Nanawall on providing the most comprehensive, high quality window solutions.
NanaWall offers many of the same benefits as Kolbe and Kolbe, and additionally they utilize 50% recycled materials in their windows. They also include top of the line sealing and closing mechanisms, which are a must for energy performance. NanaWall’s window wall allows you to do creative things architecturally, such as include large openings that give you a much desired esthetic effect as well as functional quality. NanaWall’s sleek, stylish, energy saving products are a must have for any home that wants to enjoy the beauty around it. This products was used on both the North and South walls of the the downstairs living area, effectively connecting the front and back of the home. This creates an incredible indoor outdoor living space with views and fucntionality that must truly be seen to be appreciated.
All of the windows in the home are not only low E, but also have both U values (aka U-factor or coefficient of heat transmission, a measure of the rate of non-solar heat loss or gain through a material or assembly) and SHGC values (solar heat gain coefficient, the fraction of incident solar radiation admitted through a window, both directly transmitted, and absorbed and subsequently released inward) between .35 and .37. Installing windows with values such as these was very important in this project due the large amount and size of the windows and window walls. It was also important to keep pace with the rest of the energy features of the home. Not doing so would mitigate many of the benefits of the insulation and of the heating and cooling system.
